The Missing Links 1981: Walter, Scott, Dave & George

A Humble Beginning

In the darkness of the distant past, during the Ice Age (the '70's), in the tangled waste lands in the the west of Massachusetts (West Springfield), a tribe of humanoids discovered the light of music. Don Franco, George Salem, George Condon, Marty Howe, Dave Holloway, Bill Frost & Eddy Metevier developed their craft in the grottos of King's Highway. That pre-historic race became extinct, except for one, George Condon, who stood errect (Dave Holloway also survived, but as of yet has not stood erect) and shewed his craft to another, Scott Cleveland. At the dawn of civilizacion these three young musicians and Walter Tibbitts formed a group called The Missing Links. Words were then written by George and then music by Scott and thus songs were created. Soon, Richard Beale heard their songs and offered to promote them. Conections he had, said he, and dropped such names as Heart & Glen Campbell that he could offer their songs to. A manager was found, Steve Link, for whom the band was named (fittingly, if you were to know him), and a sound man who was Jed Terwilliger, a friend of Walter; and demo tapes were made and sent; and they were told to find the elusive up-beat.   A time of great upheaval and catastrophie followed. Members came and went; first Walter departed. Then Bob Lilja was brought in only to have Dave go. Chris Merullo replaced him. Then, in succession, Chris then Bob were gone, but not until after a demo was made. Glen was next, but didn't fare well. Some time later a video was done with Bob and Brian Sears. More connections were promised with record companies, but once again, the infamous up-beat reared up its ugly head. Brian remained, but Bob didn't. For a time they searched for a drummer and a bass player untill they found two (their names being no longer remembered) and renamed the band for a short while to Brian Damage & The Scattered Brains. But these two aren't remembered for a reason. They weren't any good. So, then Tony Duarte joined them as drummer and Scott took up the bass. Music of the ancient '60's was played by the group, but Tony wanted the music of the patriarchs of Rock n' Roll from the '50's, so he was out. After this, with much persuasion, Bob returned. More demo tapes were made, more music was written, then, beyond belief George quit. They were sore distressed and didn't know what to do. They tried to replace him with Bob Lovell, but all failed, and The Missing Links were buried deep under the sands of time.
In the meantime, Dave and Scott resurfaced for awhile and along wih Mark Turcotte and Danny Liptack played as The Rivals. But unfortunately, their time was very short and before long they drifted apart. The Missing Links 1983: Scott, Brian, George & Tony

The Middle Ages

After eons, (the '90's) George and Scott excavated all the old demo tapes and turned them into a CD (offered here). This unearthing of the Missing Links brought about another fleury of activity, another promoter, Steve Kendall, the return of former members Bob and Brian and joining of a new member Al Jenkins whose tinitis required us to replace him soon aftreward with Brian's friend Gary. This lasted almost two years, with a long run playing at the Tick Tock Lounge, but again they became extinct and sank into the swamp. The Missing Links 1985: George, Scott, Brian & Bob

The Modern World

Then silence reigned and all seemed lost again until a time when these fossills were once more ressurected...
And what do we call ourselves now? I was in a local pub one Saturday night with my beer buddy, Marty Howe, when he turned to me in a not so coherent state and said, "I feel like I'm getting a rusty tan..," to which I replied, "Wha..?" and he pointed to a metal art sun hanging over the bar and said, "...under the scrap iron sun!" There you have it. Now you know. Fitting... I believe... Scrap... Rusty... Anyway, George, Scott, Dave and new member Ray Brouillette are Scrap Iron Sun (and we still have our day jobs...occassionally).

The Missing Links 1997: Al, Scott, Brian, George & Bob FYI: Where Are They Now!
George and Scott have started a new project called Scrap Iron Sun. They presently have a new CD called Getting A Rusty Tan. They also have a video on YouTube from the CD of an old Herman's Hermits song, "No Milk Today."
George is the owner of a very successful business in West Springfield, MA, Northeast Security Solutions and it's subsidiary Atwood Fire & Security.
Scott is in the midst of looking for a new career as a medical transcriptionist and is taking a certificate course through Penn Foster.
Dave, after a long lay off, is back to work through a private contractor at Hamilton Sundstrand.
Walter Tibbitts, so I've heard from a very reliable source, is now the Fire Chief of the Shutesbury, MA Fire Department. See that, he never should have quit the band!
Steve Link is now a Liuetenant in the West Springfield, MA Fire Department. Looks like a trend. Maybe we should have quit the band... Nah!
Chris Merullo, according to the phonebook any way, is living in Longmeadow, MA
Al Jenkins is currently working for Atlas Copco, a packaging company, in Westfield, MA (His tinitis is doing much better now that he doesn't have to listen to us.) Al also had a two week temp job with George once that lasted for a year.
Jed Terwilliger is working in Palmer, MA at Turley Publications.
As far as all the others are concerned, they still seem to be missing! (Any clue as to their whereabouts would be greatly appreciated.)
